Set between open fields and woodland, this new dementia care development provides forty bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms. The common facilities include hairdresser, lounges, quiet rooms and a cafe with conservatory.
The design won the award for Best Care Home Design in the Scottish Care Awards.
The client also received the Best Innovation in Continuing Care Award at Scotland’s Dementia Awards.
An external deck provides a safe sitting area with southerly views over the fields. Landscape gardens provide safe walking routes and outside activity spaces.
Heat pumps and boreholes provide a sustainable heating solution, and a good standard of thermal insulation was achieved to reduce energy use.
The design was developed in consultation with the Iris Murdoch Centre, to ensure that the internal environment reflects current guidance on designing for dementia.
