We provided full architectural services and lead consultancy for the successful delivery of a new medical centre to a rural doctors practice within the village of Sandhead in the Rhins of Galloway. Our service was from inception to completion of the project and we were involved in close liaison from an early stage including site selection.
The existing practice was located within the lead practitioners house, which had become overgrown. The site selection process involved masterplanning and utilisation of our Town Planning Consultancy skills to develop a much larger project for substantial development in the relatively small village. Ultimately this resulted in the creation of a new site for the medical centre along with outline permission for the development of 2 private dwellinghouses accessed from the new road network serving the medical centre along with a further much larger development for 20 social housing units and a further 25 unit private housing development. Our assistance in delivering these additional developments greatly assisted our Client in the viability of the project and ultimately endured the delivery of the project.
To serve a rural community the new facility, while small, still had to provide all essential functions anticipated in a much larger medical centre. This comprised consulting rooms along with treatment room and minor injuries and local dispensary as dispensing was carried out in house by the practice.
We developed the brief closely with our client and allowed for future expansion as the practice develops further. This included space for future extension to clinic areas, along short term expansion of conversion of attic space to create decanted office, staff areas and library / meeting areas. The attic space was therefore fully formed and insulated with allowance for future staircase.
The project was completed on time and within budget and is considered a great success by staff and patients.
