Condition Surveys to Category B Listed Churches

07 July 2025

We’ve recently had the privilege of carrying out initial Condition Surveys on two very different but equally significant Category B listed churches in Scotland, each representing a distinct period and architectural style.

Kildrum Parish Church, Cumbernauld

Designed by Alan Reiach and Stuart Renton, this striking modernist church was completed in 1960-62 as part of the new town development. With its expressive sculptural form, it’s a bold and important piece of 20th-century ecclesiastical architecture.

Dryfesdale Parish Church, Lockerbie

Dating from 1896, this prominent sandstone church representing a more traditional Scottish ecclesiastical character and form, with detailed stonework and a commanding tower visible across the entire town.

These surveys of these equally impressive churches were carried out by our Conservation Architecture team which consists of three The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) Conservation Accredited Architects all at Advanced Level.

We are proud to bring our experience and care to support urgent and sensitive repairs that will help protect the fabric and future of these important buildings. Each survey forms the first step in ensuring these heritage assets are understood to allow new adaptive uses to be carefully considered to ensure they remain and continue to serve their local communities.

If you require support with Condition Surveys, whether for listed buildings or more recent structures, we’d be happy to help. Our conservation expertise ensures a thoughtful, informed approach to assessing building fabric and identifying repair needs.
