Net Zero Ready Affordable Housing Completed
03 March 2026
Willox Park (Phase 1) has been completed and handed over. This development delivers a new benchmark in affordable, energy‑efficient housing for West Dunbartonshire Council. The development provides 17 new sheltered homes, comprising 14 flats and 3 bungalows, arranged within a C‑shaped block that encloses a shared amenity courtyard, fostering community interaction and accessibility for residents.
Located on the former site of a care home, the £4.45m project was initially developed by the Council before being progressed during construction as a Design & Build contract with McTaggart Construction. Funding was secured through the Affordable Housing Supply Programme and the Housing Capital Investment Programme, supporting the Council’s wider commitment to high‑quality, future‑ready social housing.
From the outset, the brief set an ambitious goal: to deliver a Net Zero Ready development aligned with emerging governmental policy and long‑term energy performance targets.
Completed in February 2026, the project integrates an innovative Shared Ambient Loop Ground Source Heat Pump system developed by Energy Consultant Carbon Futures, using boreholes to provide low‑carbon space heating and hot water across all dwellings. The development includes enhanced building fabric performance, including very low U‑values, triple‑glazed windows, high levels of airtightness, and Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) for controlled, efficient indoor air quality.
