Planning and Listed Building Consent for Glasgow Art Club
26 May 2026
We have obtained Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent for the Category A Listed Glasgow Art Club, for refurbishment and improvements to the 7 top floor artists’ studios, including new north facing rooflights in the Glasgow City Centre Conservation Area. This continues the club’s drive to provide good-quality studio space for artists in the city.
The Art Club at 185 Bath Street is neo-classical set of two terraced townhouses, built in the 1830s. They were bought by the Glasgow Art Club in 1892 and converted to form one building, and a spacious gallery was added to the ground floor. Elements of special interest include the entrance hall, main gallery and stairs, which were enriched with woodwork and decorative details designed by the architect John Keppie and his apprentice at the time, Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
