We have completed lifeboat stations at Helensburgh, Largs, Troon, Girvan, Lamlash and Portpatrick.
Helensburgh Lifeboat Station is one of a series of replacement buildings designed by our practice to accommodate the new RNLI fleet. The building was Highly Commended in the Helensburgh & Lomond Planning Design Awards.
The RNLI colours were used to express the structural logic of the boathouse. A special crested ridge was commissioned with a wave motif to symbolise the building’s affinity with the sea. The project included the construction of a new slipway.
We are very experienced in designing buildings to withstand severe weather in exposed locations. The stormy photograph shows the RNLI boathouse at Largs. After this storm the client’s newsletter recorded,
Despite a severe pounding from the ferocious sea, no damage was done, the building did not flood, and the souvenir shop was able to open again as soon as the weather improved.
