At Roucan Loch Crematorium the client took great care in selecting a natural and beautiful setting in ten acres of countryside, bounded to the north by mature scots pine woodland and to the south by the Loch itself.
The landscape setting was the key to the design of the building, emphasising the peaceful atmosphere of this special place. Glazing on both sides of the service room frames the views to the woodland and the Loch. The building is positioned as close to the Loch as practically possible to allow natural light to reflect into the service room from the surface of the water.
The project received a Design Commendation from the Glasgow Institute of Architects.
