We were commissioned to undertake a detailed feasibility study and options appraisalfor the redevelopment of the Townfoot Sports Centre. The study explored three architectural strategies for modernising the existing facility, improving environmental performance, and delivering an upgraded community sports hub. Each option addresses the condition of the current structure and proposes a differing level of intervention, enabling the client to consider scope, budget and long‑term aspirations.
Option 1 focused on upgrading the building envelope while retaining most of the existing structure. The swimming pool is fully redeveloped, and the building receives a refreshed external appearance.
Option 2 introduced a more transformative aesthetic, featuring a sedum green roof, upgraded curtain walling and improved daylighting. The approach modernises the sports centre’s identity while improving sustainability.
Option 3 offered the most comprehensive re‑cladding solution, using a combination of modern render and composite metal panels to deliver architectural cohesion and a renewed building identity.
The feasibility study provided a clear set of strategic options, enabling the client to assess cost, architectural ambition, sustainability benefits and operational requirements. The three proposals offer a progressive pathway, from essential refurbishment to comprehensive transformation, supporting informed decision‑making for the future of the Townfoot Sports Centre.
