This twenty-one unit development for Loreburn Housing Association, provides a mixture of mainstream general needs houses, elderly amenity bungalows and a wheelchair-friendly house for rent at Vendace Drive, Lochmaben. The allocated site within the settlement boundary of Lochmaben and was taken forward as part of an overall masterplan for the site where Loreburn provided the affordable element to a larger phased private housing development by one of the UK’s largest residential developers. A collaborative approach ensured the development was carried out and completed to achieve the brief and programme requirements of Loreburn and the private developer.
The houses have been built with a highly insulated timber frame construction, which helps to ensure a low cost, low energy use, building envelope. All properties are centrally heated with radiators served from condensing gas-fired boilers.
The choice of building materials and colours such as grey coloured facing brickwork panels, white render, high quality timber windows and grey concrete tiles are in keeping with the general aesthetic of the surrounding area.
The development is also Secured by Design certified and compliant with Housing for Varying Needs standards and Loreburn’s own design guide.
This project was completed through a formal Partnering Agreement with Loreburn and Ashleigh Construction.
