The plan developed a strategy for redeveloping the former Crichton asylum and established the concept of the University Terrace, the Business Terrace, a Central Facilities Core, Ceremonial Lawns and a Sports Field, making full use of the historical landscaped estate and magnificent setting.
Particular consideration was given to pedestrian and vehicular circulation within the sensitive site, which has Conservation Area status and numerous listed buildings.
Glasgow University, University of the West of Scotland and Dumfries & Galloway College have all established a presence on the estate. The realised Masterplan was awarded the Royal Town Planning Institute Supreme Award: The Silver Jubilee Cup.
