Major works are now underway upgrading Brodick Castle for the National Trust for Scotland.
Fire risk mitigation works are now underway at the Category A Listed Brodick Castle in Arran. This extensive upgrade for the National Trust for Scotland includes major works to form compartmentation, fabric upgrades, fire detection, forming a permanent fire pond, and the installation of a fire fighting, evacuation and access lift, sensitivity incorporated into the historic fabric.
Brodick Castle dates back to the 13th Century and is steeped in history. The Dukes of Hamilton, one of Scotland’s grandest aristocratic families, created much of what can be seen today. The fire mitigation works will help to ensure that this valuable asset is safeguarded for the benefit of future generations.

We baked an ornate cake of Brodick Castle, one of 53 cakes for the Festival of Architecture’s giant map of landmark buildings.
We baked an ornate cake of Brodick Castle for the Festival of Architecture’s giant map of landmark buildings. The cake has three main sections, each of which needed a five and a half hour bake.
The construction was rich fruitcake, finished in marzipan and fondant icing for robustness. The tower was structurally challenging, just like the castle itself (the original stone tower having suffered a collapse before being rebuilt with much thicker walls), but the apricot jam mortar was successful in holding the structure together.
Cake Fest Stirling was a great success, with 53 teams creating a diverse range of edible masterpieces on a map measuring 100sq.m.

Materials reflect the historical brickwork patterns present in the beautiful market town of Wendover. The design is modern in style and will transform a dilapidated site to create a more attractive approach to the town. The roof form incorporates photovoltaic arrays for on-site generation.
There will be a secure play garden to the rear with play equipment and feature slide, and ecological enhancements include three bat roosting tubes and three swift boxes within the roof gables to promote biodiversity.
Ornately carved stone masks are replacing the badly eroded keystones at Irvine Townhouse, part of the new Leisure Centre.
During the substantial restoration of Irvine Townhouse eroded stone masks are being replaced. These ornately carved stones form keystones in the arched window heads and represent Greek Gods.
Irvine Townhouse dates from 1860 and is Category B listed. The restoration work is part of the wider new £20m Leisure Centre project. The project involves over a year’s worth of work in stone indenting, together with reroofing, traditional plaster restoration, replacement harling, restoration of the clock tower bell enclosure, and restoration of the magnificent weather vane.
