This project involved the rehabilitation and restoration of two historical buildings to provide state-of-the-art teaching facilities for Glasgow University, including seminar rooms, laboratory, library, language laboratories, and studio theatre. “Virtual lectures” can be held by means of a fibre-optic link to Glasgow University coupled with video and sound technology and acoustic treatment to the seminar rooms.
A new link building provides disabled access throughout while forming a new entrance and social hub. Naturally finished materials were used externally to minimise ongoing maintenance.
The Crichton College project has won several prestigious awards and is featured in the book ‘Scotland’s 100 Best New Buildings’.
