Meldrum House is a two storey care home for South Lanarkshire Council, accommodating frail elderly residents with differing degrees of dementia. The building also provides respite accommodation.
The en-suite bedrooms for 30-35 residents are divided into five individual wings to reduce the perceived scale of the building. The design provides a familiar, domestic environment. Inner courtyards, roof glazing and a winter garden take advantage of available sunlight throughout the year.
One of the lounges acts as a cinema room, with automatic blackout blinds etc, allowing residents to watch new films as well as archive newsreels and films from the past to assist in stimulating memories.
The adjacent Dementia Daycare Centre provides a full programme of activities for people with dementia, including news groups, memory games, painting therapy and snoezelen multi-sensory therapy.
