This project comprised a series of sensitive interventions to the Category B listed Paisley Crematorium, focused on modernising essential facilities while respecting the building’s historic character. Works included the replacement of the existing cremators, upgrades to improve overall accessibility, and the rationalisation of internal floor levels to provide a coherent and dignified environment for users.
Externally, new gently graded ramped routes were introduced to enhance access and egress for mourners, improving inclusivity without detracting from the setting of the listed building. Listed Building Consent was secured for the proposals, including approval for the careful removal of an existing historic wall to enable future plant replacement and ongoing operational resilience.
Internal improvements included the enhancement of staff facilities and the control room, alongside the widening of the catafalque to accommodate larger coffin sizes, ensuring the crematorium is equipped to meet contemporary operational and ceremonial requirements.
